Buddies, Bosses and The One Pulling the Cosmic Strings of Life

I've started and stopped a handful of blog posts. None are good enough to stand on their own; none bad enough to throw away altogether.

On Friendship: I have this one friend who has been a friend despite time and space. No matter how long it has been, we can pick up right where we left off. He listens, he laughs, but most importantly, he calls me out on my shit. It hurts, but only for a minute.

College Buddies: I am so glad that my old college buddies weren't on the list of references my employer called before my last job interview. I never attempted to rape anyone, but I am sure that their stories of those days would have been enough to ensure I wasn't hired.

Transactional v. Relational Employment: I am an hourly employee for the first time in my professional life. My employer and I have a transactional agreement. I show up at work for 8.5 hours a day, they pay me for 8 hours (30-minute unpaid lunch break is mandatory from 11:45 to 12:15, and the start and stop times of two paid 10-minute breaks are signaled by a bell). Here's how I know a relational agreement (or salary) is a better way to work: NO ONE goes to the bathroom during the scheduled break times. The bathrooms are empty during lunch and break times. "I'm not going to waste MY lunch break, when I know I can shit on THEIR time."

Pulling Strings: Many of us have this mind-picture of God as a caring creator who is pulling the cosmic strings that align the circumstances of our lives. The more I think about Him though, the more I think the things we think about God are full of shit.

On Anticipating Change: I have spent the last week anticipating news of what could be a life changing event (hopefully, I can talk about that soon). You know what is so stupid and irrational?: The fear of the unknown.Just stop it.

I can't imagine any of you want me to write more on any of these topics... but if you do, leave a comment below.
