From the place Mr. Lincoln sits, you can learn a lot about this place where we live. On his right are the words used to dedicate the great battlefield at Gettysburg. On his left, his second inaugural address:


With malice toward none, with charity for all, with firmness in the right as God gives us to see the right, let us strive on to finish the work we are in, to bind up the nation's wounds, to care for him who shall have borne the battle and for his widow and his orphan, to do all which may achieve and cherish a just and lasting peace among ourselves and with all nations.

From the place Mr. Lincoln sits, spring has sprung 97 times. Un-open buds are waiting for a few more days of sunshine before they blossom. White, pink, yellows. The beautiful colors reflect in the pool.


From the place Mr. Lincoln sits, it is only a few steps to a spot where a reverend leader shared his dreams with and for our nation. Both men shared this dream. Both men were killed because it scared other men.


From the place Mr. Lincoln sits; he looks around monuments dedicated to predecessors, over memorials to hero liberators, and toward the place our nation is governed. It is 1.9 miles to Congress from the place Mr. Lincoln sits. Sadly, there are few living heroes to be seen there today. Those with the power to make change are more interested in holding on to power. Those with dreams of change are told by those scared of change that their dreams are un-American.


From the place Mr. Lincoln sits, he has watched as 29 additional men traveled to the steps of Congress to accept the heavy responsibility of the highest office in our government. It is likely none of these men will ever be revered or remembered for their dedication the way Mr. Lincoln is revered and remembered for his.


From the place Mr. Lincoln sits, It is hard to imagine that any of the men and women who serve as president in the future will be revered or remembered this way. It is not that there are not issues that divide us and threaten to tear our country apart. There are. It is that most of these office holders will do little to exercise the courage to recognize the gravity of them nor the honor to fight against them.


From the place Mr. Lincoln sits, I cannot imagine that anyone will be given a seat like the one Mr. Lincoln holds.
